My Perception:

'Her Vow' is a good story about Sarai finally getting her true love with Malachi. Yes, Sarai was tested by being abandoned by her mother and now by Malachi's mom, who presented problems. However, she was able to handle that situation with the help of her therapist through counseling.

By the end, we see Sarai finally learning to love herself, her family, and Malachi.

This author did a fantastic job presenting the reader with a good read.

My Thoughts:

'The Governor's Wife' was a good read with mystery, thriller, and suspense. It was exciting to see how a person who was running for political office is in such a mess that involves him having someone killed. But the funny thing about this was someone knew of this man's doings. I felt somewhat sorry for Samantha because she had to tell me after a while that her slick husband, Jeffrey, didn't love her. But, oh well...he was not only rich but 'evil, abusive, murder, drama, calculating,' and you could go on naming other things that fit him to a t.

Be ready for the twists and turns when the story starts to unravel. You will keep turning the pages to see how this story ends. Who will be alive when it's all said and done?    This is where you must pick up this story to see how well this author brings it all together for the reader and see whether there will be another love interest for another particular two?

Black Phoenix By: Cortez Law III

 Black Excerpt:

"Only Sergeant Malcolm Hobbs and his Atlanta X-Men Homicide Squad can uncover the city's darkest secrets when an arsonist unveils a shocking Civil Rights Era political conspiracy of race, greed, power, and murder in this gripping new mystery/thriller from Cortez Law III.

The first was a riddle. The second was a mystery. The third was a conspiracy.

In the wee hours of a summer morning, shadows surround a building. In minutes, it's engulfed in flames. A fire isn't usually within the scope of a homicide case, so why is Sergeant Malcolm X. Hobbs called to the scene?

After the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) scours the burned rubble, they find nobody, clothing, or identification. But upon further inspection, the firefighters experience shock and awe when they unearth a set of human remains buried in a shallow grave. Soon after, they discover twelve sets of human remains.

Now, Hobbs' elite X-Men Homicide Squad joins him to solve the case. When the reports come back from the Medical Examiner's office, the detectives learn the victims' identities and that each was executed with a bullet to the back of the head sometime during the Civil Rights Era.

As they delve into the complex investigation, the X-Men Squad must navigate the danger that encompasses their every move and wonder if it's a better option to let this case stay buried.

Pushed to the brink of their experience and patience, it's all hands on deck when Hobbs and his team enlist the assistance of the Uniformed Patrol Forces, Missing Persons Unit, and the Intelligence Squad to close the gap on the unknown perpetrator more evil and dangerous than anyone could have imagined and who has gone undetected for decades."

'Black Widow' brought us a model named Marlowe, who had great grit when caring for certain things. After being raised by an abusive father, she was determined not to let another man get away with hurting a woman, especially after what he had done to her mother.

When it looked like all was going well for Marlowe, she met up with Casper and began to enjoy his company while he did hers. However, what will happen when Casper discovers what Marlowe has been doing to these men?

This will be quite a read. Murder, mystery, and unexpected love are intertwined in this gripping psychological thriller, with twists and turns everywhere. Be ready for a read that will keep you turning the pages as you keep up with this Black Widow, Casper. There is someone else who will come out all front and center, and I will stop here and say wow! My Thoughts:

This story was full of romance, love, evilness, and craziness, and I know I have left something out of 'Cindy Ella.' What starts like a decent story quickly turns wild after Cindy's father marries that evil stepmother, Tremaine, with her two children. I felt sorry for Cindy, who wanted a mom and sisters, but what did she get? Then she meets Kofi, which is a good thing for her, but with her being so twisted in what was going on in her life, she doesn't seem to recognize what was a good thing for her. You must pick up the book and see how it all comes out to get this good story. I hate to say this, but it all gets wild when you discover who was behind this mess. Believe it or not, I was shocked to find out who was behind this mess. I will stop here and say I am glad Cindy finally realized who was there for her through this mystery, thriller, and suspenseful novel.

Bye, Baby A Novel by Carola Lovering

 Book Excerpt:

"On a brisk fall night in a New York apartment, 35-year-old Billie West hears terrified screams. It's her lifelong best friend Cassie Barnwell, one floor above, and she's just realized her infant daughter has gone missing. Billie is shaken as she looks down into her own arms to see the baby, remembering—with a jolt of fear—that she is responsible for the kidnapping that has instantly shattered Cassie's world.

Once fiercely bonded by their secrets, Cassie and Billie have drifted apart in adulthood, no longer the inseparable pair they used to be in their small Hudson Valley hometown. Cassie is married to a wealthy man, has recently become a mother, and is building a following as a lifestyle influencer. She is desperate to leave her past behind—including Billie, who is single and childless and no longer fits into her world. But Billie knows the worst thing Cassie has ever done, and she will do whatever it takes to restore their friendship…

Told in alternating perspectives in Lovering's signature suspenseful style, Bye, Baby confronts the myriad ways friendships change and evolve over time, the lingering echoes of childhood trauma, and the impact of women's choices on their lifelong relationships."

My Thoughts:

"Bye, Baby" was quite a read that once you start reading [and it was a long read], you will not want to put it down until the end. From the characters, friendships, and twists and turns, wow, what a read this one was that will give one a lot to think about long after the read.

How did Cassie and Billie, best friends from high school, 's friendship turn so toxic? Well, all that is left to say is that this is what can happen when someone decides to poke in and try to destroy it all, and in the end...it happens. Was it the secret that broke them up, jealousy, or were they such opposites? Is this what happens when people grow up and change?

Be ready for a read that takes in a lot...from 'toxic relationships, messy friendships, motherhood, trauma, and toxic narcissism and much more' that you will just have to pick up this read to try to understand it all if you can.

I will stop here and say, pick up 'Bye, Baby,' and see how well this author gives it all to the reader. I didn't think this was a happy read; however, you know what you feel about this thriller read. I was left shaking my head and saying what a friendship this one was. Ok, I will stop here.

I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC.

My Sentiments:

'A Cry In The Darkness' is a good read that gives the reader a bit of mystery, suspense, and romance. It happened in this small town named Drum, Tennessee, where Caroline Blakely just happened to come upon a rural setting where she had been on the run from her father. Caroline [Carly] never thought she would be so 'involved with secrets from her past' as she passes through this town, only stopping due to car trouble. Not only will there be drama as you read through this scary story, but be ready for many problems, from drugs, lynchpins, kingpins, crime, corruption, secrets, murder, and so much more, before one gets to the end. This story will keep one guessing as you turn the pages to see what is coming next for Carly as she is now having her car towed, finding a job as a waitress...having to get a room at a motel...and, oh yeah, then she hears fighting and then witnessing a young boy being killed. I will stop here and say that is only some of what happens in this story of many twists and turns. Yes, there will be some good people in the read and some not so good, that will keep one attention as you continue through this 'whodunnit' read.

Overall, 'A Cry In The Dark' was a good story. There will be a series as the story continues with many characters from Drum, TN.

 Book Excerpt:

"Book 2 of the Lainey Abbott Series

It's one thing to defend a client everyone thinks is guilty ... it's quite another to defend him if you think so, too.

Former ADA turned defense lawyer Lainey Abbott is beginning to worry. It looks like the rest of her professional life will be spent representing dope boys in stop-and-frisk cases just to help keep the lights on at her and Greg Knight's law practice. Then, a star football player from an elite college shows up at their door.

A young, beautiful classmate, with whom he had an erratic three-month fling, was just found dead, and right away, he's in the NYPD's crosshairs. Could be a fairly straightforward case to defend. Or maybe not. He's Black, and the missing girl is white.

Without hesitation, Lainey agrees to represent him. She and Greg are hungry for a case like this because they know firsthand how unequal American justice can be. Soon, the 'straightforward' case becomes much more complicated than they ever imagined. And if that weren't bad enough, Lainey's relationship with Det. Russ Sanders might be unraveling. He isn't crazy about her working on criminal defense and, worse yet, with a former lover as a law partner.

But the biggest test of all is yet to come, and once again, it's about her missing sister, Stephanie."
