"Chloe After Dark" by Elsa Joseph

My Assessment:

We find Chloe Milano has broken up with her boyfriend...Daniel is in debt and needs a good-paying job. Her friends [Blair & Stephanie] come to her aid with her landing a radio show job [Fantasy FM] for listeners after dark, who dealt with sexual fantasies. What will Chloe lose at taking this kind of job? The reader is given quite a story that leads her into some up and down situations and some horrible consequences that she will go through, especially after that... The reader will be a little off with how the effects of addressing PTSD and the suicidal situation seemed to have been dealt with. How will Chole choose to come out of this? You will have to pick up this read and see for yourself how this author brings the story all out to the reader.

If Chloe had taken the advice her mother was telling her about counseling...oh well, however, in the end, mom was probably happy with the choice Chloe made in the end.

Be ready for some mystery, drama, suspense, crime, and oh yes, ...some racy steamy romance scenes from this entertaining read.

The ending...oh well...a HEA with HIM...? I thought Chloe deserved better, but in the end, I guess she ended up with whom she wanted in her life.

"Sins Of A Misfit" by Niki Jilvontae

My Assessment:

There are a lot of questions that will be answered from this story. From 'What happens when two Misfits come together and create a new generation of Evil,"...Can the Sins of a Misfit be visited upon their child?... What happens when those Misfits set revenge A Long Way From Home?... Can the Chaos of Misfits that started a decade ago be finished by their offsprings of psychotic Gen Z Misfits?" To find out all the answers to these questions, you will have to pick up"Sins of a Misfits" that doesn't end with this series. Be prepared for a story with lots of drama, murder, killings... along with all that brings to this story. The story will leave one wanting more as it seems like another family of the Lewis family ...a big brother named Norman. Will he be able to help out after all is said and done? To find out, I guess we will have to wait for the next series to what Norman brings into this series.

My Assessment:

Get ready for another hot heated read by this author with so much drama; you will have to keep up as the story unfolds. Be prepared for plenty of 'deceit, revenge, twists and turns, backstabbing and lies' that will keep the reader's attention as you continue to turn the places to see what will happen next. The work trust doesn't enter into the story because there is no trust from any one of these characters [Ross, Nina, Ana, Vader, Rondo, and Boogie], to name a few. This story will keep you wondering who will make it out of all this hell by the end of the story. Love & Saffron A Novel of Friendship, Food, and Love by Kim Fay

 Book Excerpt:

"In the vein of the classic 84, Charing Cross Road and Meet Me at the Museum, this witty and tender novel follows two women in 1960s America as they discover that food really does connect us all and that friendship and laughter are the best medicine.

When twenty-seven-year-old Joan Bergstrom sends a fan letter--as well as a gift of Saffron--to fifty-nine-year-old Imogen Fortier, a life-changing friendship begins. Joan lives in Los Angeles and is just starting out as a writer for the newspaper food pages. Imogen lives on Camano Island outside Seattle, writing a monthly column for a Pacific Northwest magazine. While she can hunt elk and dig for clams, she's never tasted fresh garlic--exotic fare in the Northwest of the sixties. As the two women commune through their letters, they build a closeness that sustains them through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassination of President Kennedy, and the unexpected in their own lives.

Food and a good life—they can't be separated. It is a discovery the women share, not only with each other but with the men in their lives. Because of her correspondence with Joan, Imogen's decades-long marriage blossoms into something new and exciting, and in turn, Joan learns that true love does not always come in the form we expect it to. Into this beautiful, intimate world comes the ultimate test of Joan and Imogen's friendship—a test that summons their unconditional trust in each other.

A brief respite from our chaotic world, Love & Saffron is a gem of a novel, a reminder that food and friendship are the antidotes to most any heartache and that human connection will always be worth creating."

"Love & Saffron A Novel of Friendship, Food, and Love" by Kim Fay

My Assessment:

'Love and Saffron' was a delightful read told in a penpal form.
We find the setting of this story was from the 1960s [Seattle and Los Angeles] when Joan Bergstrom, a twenty-seven-year-old who was a columnist, and Imogen and fifty-nine-year-old Imogen Fortier, who through fan letters that produced a friendship that became good friends. Who knew that since they both worked for a newspaper and when Joan sent Imogen a packet of Saffron along with a fan letter, a friendship would come from this situation and you will have to pick up "love & Saffron to find out what all this author has in store for the reader.

It was a heartwarming read seeing how these two were able "to share recipes, love of food, pleasures, even curiosities from their richness of life." What a joy it was reading about seeing these two who 'shared affinity and fascination with each other insights and experiences.' Seeing how these two stuck with each other through a little bit of it all, especially when it came to their love of cooking and food.

Even as life went on around them ...from the Cuban missile crisis, the assassination of President Kennedy, different attitudes toward people of color which brought out fears and all that brought out lots of reactions of the world as there were lots of changes coming forth and most of all hope for the future.

Be ready for not only a well-written story but also a memorable one about friendship and, oh yes, food.

Thanks to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the excellent read and my leaving my honest opinion from the read.

Black Joy Stories of Resistance, Resilience, and Restoration by Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts

 Book Excerpt:

"A timely collection of deeply personal, uplifting, and powerful essays that celebrate the redemptive strength of Black joy—in the vein of Black Girls Rock, You Are Your Best Thing, and I Really Needed This Today.

When Tracey M. Lewis-Giggetts wrote an essay on Black joy for The Washington Post, she had no idea just how deeply it would resonate. But the outpouring of responses affirmed her own lived experience: that Black joy is not just a weapon of resistance; it is a tool for resilience.

With this book, Tracey aims to gift her community with a collection of lyrical essays about the way joy has evolved, even in the midst of trauma, in her own life. Detailing these instances of joy in the context of Black culture allows us to recognize the power of Black joy as a resource to draw upon and challenge the one-note narratives of Black life as solely comprised of trauma and hardship.

Black Joy is a collection that will recharge you. It is the kind of book passed between friends and offers both challenge and comfort at the end of a long day. It is an answer for anyone who needs confirmation that they are not alone and a brave place to quiet their mind and heal their soul."

My Assessment:

Be ready for a read that will give it all to you especially left with the thoughts of being not only 'honest but engaging, informing, and oh so thought-provoking.' This author provides the reader with quite a read that 'gifts her community with a collection of lyrical essays about the way joy has evolved, even during trauma, in her own life.' The 'Black Joy' collection will recharge one as they pass on this information between friends and, yes, even family. I enjoyed how 'It has an answer for anyone who needs confirmation that they are not alone and a brave place to quiet their mind and heal their soul.' The author lays it all out there for the reader as she describes her trauma, also giving us that of even other Black people...end the end provides us with the tool needed for 'resistance and resilience that will counteract the stereotype of the Black pain.'

Be ready to receive essays that will leave you not only inspired but hopeful and reflected in this nonfictional read. The author knows how to keep one's interest as she shares her stories giving the reader quite an ancestorial collective read. However, to fully understand 'Black Joy,' you will have to pick up the read and see for yourself how well this author brings it all out to you. And Yes, I would recommend this read.

The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb

Book Excerpt:

"A riveting page-turner about a Black classical musician's desperate quest to recover his lost violin on the eve of the most prestigious music competition in the world

"Utterly original and downright gripping." —Zakiya Dalila Harris, New York Times bestselling author of The Other Black Girl

Growing up Black in rural North Carolina, Ray McMillian's life is already mapped out. If he's lucky, he'll get a job at the hospital cafeteria. If he's extra fortunate, he'll earn more than minimum wage. But Ray has a gift and a dream—he's determined to become a world-class professional violinist, and nothing will stand in his way. Not his mother, who wants him to stop making such a racket; not the fact that he can't afford a violin suitable to his talents; not even the racism inherent in the world of classical music.

When he discovers that his great-great-grandfather's beat-up old fiddle is actually a priceless Stradivarius, all his dreams suddenly seem within reach. Together, Ray and his violin take the world by storm. But on the eve of the renowned and cutthroat Tchaikovsky Competition—the Olympics of classical music—the violin is stolen, a ransom note for five million dollars left in its place. Ray will have to piece together the clues to recover his treasured Strad . . . before it's too late. With the descendants of the man who once enslaved Ray's great-great-grandfather asserting that the instrument is rightfully theirs, and with his family staking their own claim, Ray doesn't know who he can trust—or whether he will ever see his beloved violin again."

"The Violin Conspiracy" by Brendan Slocumb

My Assessment:

After all, is said and done, 'The Violin Conspiracy' was a good read. First, we find Ray McMillian's violin had been stolen. From there, we learn of its 'disappearance, lawsuits, and even prejudice' that came with all of it, giving the reader one fascinating story. It was interesting how well this author, Brendan Slocumb put the story together as he wrote from his own experiences...seeing that he had suffered in a way that Ray suffered. Seeing how Ray had fought against racism, prejudice, frustrations, roadblocks, and even abuse from his own family, friends, and society, we are given quite a story. 'The Violin Cospiracy' was about how 'Ray's grandma had passed down the violin to Ray that her Pop Pop had carried from slavery.' Who would have thought that this violin turned out to be a Stradivarius? However, on the eve of a classical music competition in Moscow, someone has stolen the violin, and a 5 million dollar ransom is demanded its return. Again, the author did an excellent job of giving us an engaging read ...how will this end? Who can Ray trust? I enjoyed how Ray searched it down to find the untrustworthy person who had stolen his violin, and I will stop here and say you will have to pick up 'The Violin Conspiracy' to see how it will all come out for Ray by the end.

If you are looking for a good book 'about music, mystery, coming of age, and social commentary,' you have come to the right place for 'The Violin Conspiracy' will give it all to you and more.

My Assessment:

Get ready for quite an exciting read that 'Fear None' brings to the table featuring Rive and Tatum that had a 'relationship with so many layers.' Be ready for there will be 'definitely hurdles, tragedy, and even redemption' in this B.W.A.M. read. We find that Tatum's parents were in the love interest of 'Dirty Takedown.' I was so sorry to hear about Renee...Tatum's mother.

In 'Fear None,' we find Tatum was very sure of herself, with River being challenging knowing just what he wanted. We see them together; however, with all of River being so protective of Tatum, this will get him into trouble defending her honor...five years in prison...now an ex-convict. Directly, what caused all of this? What will happen after River gets out of jail and finds out that Tatum is a cop? Will they be able to pick up a second shot at love?'

What secret was Tatum carrying around about her 'godfather,' and how does he come into play in all of this mess? There are a lot of questions and more to be answered in the well-written read. Unfortunately, you will have to pick up not only this one...'Fear None' but also 'Dirty Takedown' and 'Bound for You' to get a heck of a good read that all comes together.

The reader is left wondering what's next for these two...Tatum and River, but I guess we will have to catch the following story to see what's coming next.
