"An Innocent Murder" by Ellis Keler

My Assessment:

'An Innocent Murden' was a legal thriller that seemed all over the place when it came to Lawyer Amanda Dames trying to find out the truth from a sixteen-year-old boy, Austin Wood. If only Austin had told the truth from the beginning, things would have gone much smoother for him. James Gilton was there to help Amanda in helping to defend Austin, but would that be enough? What was up with Amanda and her brother's Alberto situation? Who was after Amanda? As the story went on, I was left wondering why Amanda didn't seem to want help, and then with that ending, the story left me saying wow! If only she had gotten the weapon that had been spoken of several times in the read. Oh, well, I guess maybe the reader will find out more about what happens with Amanda in another read.

"Hustle and heart set them apart.

Spirit: My life was going nowhere with the Urban Spirits, Resort, Spa, and Dispensary, sending me on a mission to find my life's purpose.

When I met Indio Grey, a sexy, strong-minded man with a desire for sports, he took my breath away.

When he showed me his vengeful heart, I knew he was forbidden. It caused me to back away. Still, I was intrigued.

Determined to get myself on track, I opened up to the idea of dating.

Indio: As the first deaf NBA player, I refused to accept the limitations that others placed on me.

I wasn't willing to settle.

Spirit immediately disapproved of me and the rude ways I learned during the years I hid in my bubble.

I learned early that I would have to do something extraordinary to earn love, so I never tried. The burdens of being in the NBA left me unaware of Spirit's affection.

"Marlowe Banks, Redesigned" by Jacqueline Firkins

My Assessment:

'Marlowe Banks, Redesigned' featured Marlowe and Angus, an exciting romance of how the two came together. We find that Marlowe was a New York costume designer and moved to LA, leaving that ex-fiance, Kelvin, behind. First, Marlowe worked as an errand girl; then, she moved on to working as a TV PA show. It is at this TV show where Marlowe's world is turned upside down and where she gets to know the leading actor, Angus. The novel had many intriguing characters that kept one interested in turning the pages to see what was coming next. Marlowe's parents were quite a trip in the expectations of their ideas of success which didn't match up to what she wanted to do with her life. So, how will all of this work out for Marlowe, as it seems there is an interest in a particular actor? Will there be a lot of learning and mistakes...well, this is where the reader will have to pick up this good novel and see how it all comes out, especially for Marlowe and Angus. Enjoy this fun read where the reader can see Marlowe and Angus becoming their own.

Built to Last A Novel by Erin Hahn

 Book Excerpt:

""I loved this delightful romance about makeovers of old homes, old personas, and relationships that never had a chance to launch. A sweet, charming reminder of what you can build with a strong foundation." - Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Two Ways

Erin Hahn's Built to Last is a sparkling second-chance romance about owning what you’re worth and fighting for the one who got away.

Shelby Springfield has spent the last ten years trying to overcome her past, sanding it away like the rough spots on the vintage furniture she makes over. But as a former child star, it’s hard to forget a widely documented meltdown and huge public break-up with her former co-star Lyle Jessup. It’s also hard to forget her other co-star and childhood sweetheart, Cameron Riggs—the one who got away.

Anytime Shelby has called, Cameron has come running… And then he runs right off again to chase stories worldwide by making documentaries, too scared to admit what he really wants. But when Lyle stirs the pot, getting the two back in the spotlight with a home renovation show, Cameron can't help but get on board.

There's something in it for everyone—almost. Cameron wants to set down some roots. Shelby wants to prove she's not the messy party girl anymore. And a jealous Lyle can’t help but try to get in the way. But for his two childhood friends, who had more chemistry than he could ever dream of, nothing is getting in the way of their second chance at love.

“Thank you, Erin Hahn, for making me laugh and swoon and cry sweet, happy tears. Can I live in this book?" - Jen Doll, author of Save the Date and Unclaimed Baggage.

My Assessment:

'The Misadventures of Itchy Izzy' was a good story featuring Isabelle and Peter. Interestingly, this author delivered her story so well to her audience. Both of these characters had lost their mom in one way or another. Izzy had lost her mom through heart complications, and Peter, well, that is quite another story that I will just let you read for yourself. Both of these characters were complex; however, Peter was able to get God into his life, and things were looking up for him. Will Peter be able to help Izzy along this road? Now for Izzy, things were somewhat different, but God had a plan for these two childhood first lovers. Both of these characters had some family members that were off the chart in what was happening, and the reader will have to pick up this novel to see what all that was about. It was great seeing how Peter and Isabelle got back together and how, with God, they were able to ... well, again, I will stop here, not wanting to give too much away. The central part of the story was how faith allowed Izzy and Peter to return to each other at the right time after all that had gone on with their damaged parents. The story is loaded with some very intriguing secondary characters that will have one shaking their heads and saying wow!

'The Misadventures of Itchy Izzy' read it was very entertaining, clean, and wholesome, which will keep one turning the pages to see what was coming next with these two families. So be ready for a good read.

Mistakes Were Made A Novel by Meryl Wilsner

 Book Excerpt:

"From the critically acclaimed author of Something to Talk About comes Meryl Wilsner's Mistakes Were Made, a short and sexy rom-com about a college senior who accidentally hooks up with her best friend's mom.

When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school's Family Weekend, she isn't looking for a hookup—it just happens. But, unfortunately, buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, excellent one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around, and her friend drags her along to meet her mom—the hot, older woman Cassie slept with.

Erin Bennett came to Family Weekend to get closer to her daughter, not have a one-night stand with a college senior. But, in her defense, she hadn't known Cassie was a student when they'd met. To make things worse, Erin's daughter brings Cassie to breakfast the following day. And despite Erin's better judgment—how could sleeping with your daughter's friend be anything but evil?—she and Cassie get along in the day just as well as they did last night.

What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost?"

Will this be something that will continue between Cassie and Erin after these two find out who was who, or will it 'escalates into something more than either of the two had planned?'

Be ready for a very spicy situation that will bring it all together 'sapphic age gap, family, taboo relationship, friendship, sexy scenes, love, happiness, and finally, a HEA.' There will be many points of view in this moving reading and secrets one will have to keep up in this LGBTQ read. And this story will give one plenty of thought long after the read. "On The Way To Christmas" [Three Stories]: Sheila Roberts; Melissa Ferguson; Amy Clipston

My Assessment:

"On the Way to Christmas" was three entertaining short stories, each about the holiday.

We find the first story: "A Christmas Do-Over," was about how a mean girl finally changes her ways and, after returning home, puts it into practice letting the reader see if she had changed her ways. It will be good to see if Darby can make amends, ask forgiveness, and get second chances and maybe a HEA. We find Darby needed forgiveness from her sister...and her friend Gregory. I will stop there and say pick up this read and see how it all comes out. Let's see if Darby will be able to eat humble pie and make amends?'

The next holiday read, 'Dashing Through the Snow,' was a different kind of read where one will find it exciting and engaging fantasy story, "Dashing Through the Snow" deals with a Christmas-theme Polar Express train trip for grownups" which was a very creative story. What will happen when Willow has been Dumped by her boyfriend [Jonas] of seven years and meets a few other interesting characters on that train ride? The story involves 'taking chances, new beginnings, and maybe a HEA.'

The last holiday read was 'A Perfectly Splendid Christmas,' where two childhood best friends [Kacey & Drew] meet up again in their hometown. Will they be able to express their love for one another this time? The story was somewhat predictable but still a good holiday read. There was so much enjoyment in how these family and friends got together during the holidays and had a wonderful holiday. But will Darcey and Drew get what they want in the end?

How will things work out for the three-holiday stories? The reader will have to pick up this good package and well-written read to see how well these three authors bring out these sweet Christmas stories to the reader.

Thank you to NetGallery and Thomas Nelson for the reads and my giving my opinion for each of the three short reads.
