Red: The Color of Failure by Carol Thompson

Profile:

"Is it better to love without life or live without love? Carmen Simpkins invests in an emotional journey of self-worth and sacrificial happiness in this enduring love story.

In the fall of 1995, Carmen Simpkins experienced both her best and worst moments of her life. After several years of infertility issues, Carmen miscarries and withdraws from everything and everyone. Out of sacrificial love for her husband, Spencer, she files for divorce and sets off on a journey of self-discovery. She doesn’t allow the love of her life to protest because she thinks she is doing it for his own good. She wants to give him the gift of children and because she is unable to bear babies, she allows him the chance to find another. Withstanding her own crushing heart, Carmen leaves to start a new life of her own and force Spence, as she lovingly calls him, the chance to fall in love with another.

Along the way, she meets antique shopkeepers, Irene and Norman who in turn mends her broken heart through the use of a weathered leather photo album. Coincidentally, this elderly couple had experienced similar circumstances. Befriending the newly separated young lady, the elderly woman takes her under her wing offering her teacakes and wisdom that only experience can administer.

Meanwhile, Spencer struggles with a decision he was not allowed to make. Soul searching on his own, he toys with alternative solutions including getting drunk and making a life changing decision on his own. Had he gone too far? His gut wrenching emotional pain is enough to push him to the brink of stability himself. Then he finally musters up the courage to read the letter his wife left him on the “night his life changed forever.” He comes to a totally different conclusion than his run-away wife but is unable to communicate with her. He doesn’t know what to do until he looks at the calendar!

Had Carmen made a tragic mistake? Was it too late to fix the mess she made?
After setting up a date reminiscent of the first time they met, Carmen unravels all the whole finality in her recent decisions. In her most creative way, she triggers an avalanche of painful and good memories. But then a tragic accident happened and life as they knew it would never be the same. After a brief reconciliation, again the best and worst news of this young couple’s marriage confronts them and forces them to prove once again how love will help them survive."

"Red: The Color of Failure" by Carol Thompson

My Thoughts....

I enjoyed this story that was about Carmen and Spencer Simpkins who were having trouble suffering from miscarriages and infertility problems. All Carmen had ever wanted was to give her husband the child he so wanted but it seemed like there would be a lots of issues coming from this situation. I only wished that Carmen and Spencer could have communicated more about this big issue that was before them. However, it seemed like Carmen had other ideas of what she should do and therefore making up her mind to leave there will be some twist and turns that will happen.

It was good to see Carmen meet two people [Irene & Norman] that will came into her life and truly be there for her offering just what she needed to hear. I thought this was a good read and to get the jest of it all you will have to pick up "Red: The Color of Failure" to see how well this author brings it out so very well to the reader. That ending truly left me in tears. It was a beautiful read that you can see that God had different plans for this couple and in the end they were truly blessed with something they truly wanted.
