Take A Bullet For You: A Standalone Scottish BWWM Romance (MacKenzie Crime Family Book 2) Kindle Edition by Amarie Avant

 Book Excerpt:

"These hands were made for taking women to heaven and condemning my enemies straight to hell . . .

BRODY
I’ll die for my clan.
Though, I never met a woman worth a single bullet—until I set eyes on Justice Flowers.
Every delicious curve on her body should be mine to manipulate. She refuses to yield.
Justice’s in trouble but won’t ask for clan protection.
I give it anyway.
She’ll soon realize I’m collecting her as payment.
Until I’ve satisfied this addiction.

JUSTICE
I’m living for me now.
After years of celibacy, I’ll take a chance on a man who penetrates my intellect—someone selfless, not ruthless.
Although Brody MacKenzie’s tropical blue eyes pierce through me, the rest of him is rugged, deadly.
Brody paid my debt without my consent.
I never intended to trade in a lunatic, to be chained to the devil.
He’ll realize that I won’t submit.
And I never will."

"Take A Bullet For You" by Amarie Avant

My Opinion:

'Take A Bullet For You' was another series: MacKenzie Crime Family Book 2 that featured Brody and Justice and was a standalone Scottish BWWM Romance.

What will happen when two clans...The Mackenzie's and McFarland's crash together? What will come out of that situation? 'Take A Bullet For You' was quite a story where it looks like Brody is to marry Erika from the McFarland clan. Why did Brody have to go to Scotland, and what clan business did he have to attend?

What will happen when Brody sets his eyes on Justice Flowers? Now that will be a good story!
What kind of trouble was Justice involved in that she needed protection from Brody? What was up with Brody's beard?

What will happen when Justice finds out that Brody MacKenzie paid her debt?

Well, what's left is how these two come together, and it will be quite a steamy ride.
I enjoyed the poem Brody has for Justice: Mended: I didn't want to love you, You were everything I feared But exactly what I need...

I know this review is a little strange...because I don't want to give too much away. You will have to pick up 'Take A Bullet For You' to see how well the author delivers it to the readers and answer all the above questions. I will say there were characters all over the place from brothers...to other clansmen and family members that will keep you having to keep up with who is who. But all of the characters were well-developed and so very interesting that they kept the story flowing. Oh, I don't want to leave out all of the banterings that go in this beautiful read!

In the end, this was some Scottish crime family story that will keep you turning the pages till the future as we get Brody and Justices' love story. The reader will get two extended epilogues. Meeting Justice's parents were quite funny. I enjoyed both, so it was hard selecting which particular one I liked most. I can't wait to listen to this story on audio!

What's next? The author will give us another series featuring Camdyn's story in 'Bad For You.'

When she discovers the diary of actress Evelyn Mountcastle in a box of old books, Pip revels in the opportunity to lose herself in someone else’s life rather than focus on the disaster that is her own. But soon, she sees parallels—Evelyn’s life was also beset by tragedy, and, like Pip, she returned to Southwold under a dark cloud.

When Pip and Evelyn’s paths cross in real life, they slowly reveal the hidden stories holding them back. Can they help each other forgive what happened in the past and, perhaps, find happiness in the future?"

My Opinion:

"Reluctantly Home" was a well-written story of how two women suffered from awful events that greatly affected their lives. 'Reluctantly' will capture one's attention from the beginning to the end.

I enjoyed how this author puts these two women [generations apart] together by losing a diary that brought them together and how each of their stories helps them in so many ways through a developed friendship. For each of them...Pip and Evelyn there was 'loss, anxiety, trauma, acceptance, and finally moving on with their lives.' One can see how when life offers you lemons. One can still move on. It was a beautiful read of how each of these individuals was able to help one another, forgive their past, and maybe even find happiness in the future that had dealt with issues of a child's death and mental illness.

My Opinion:

'Faithful Heart' was kind of sad in many ways, even though things did look as though they may work out for Cori and Geneva. We find Cori is a 'Crime Scene Investigator' where it seems like his girlfriend has become a suspect in this case. The author gives the reader quite one exciting and intriguing read that will keep your attention till the end. In the story, we find that Geneva wasn't very trusting with Cori, which will cause a bit of a problem in how things were dealt with in holding onto secrets that could cost her. I also say flaws in several of the people that dealt with Geneva...like one particular...Annabelle Hamilton, after all of what happens...one can see why I may have come to that conclusion. You will have to pick up this story and see for yourself how well it was delivered to the reader. The story gave the reader some well-developed and defined characters with main characters and secondary ones that will hold one's attention, some even having you shake your head and saying? I did enjoy the banter that the family members of Cori's. They seemed to love each other as one would wish for any family. I wanted the wedding of Cori's sister, Toni, and brother-in-law, Noble, to go smoothly. What will happen after a particular person catches the wedding bouquet? Would a specific person know that this someone was the one for him? Check out this good read and see how it will all come out.

All in all, this was a good series, and I am so glad to see that we will be getting Jax's and Nobles's story next in 'The Reed Family book 5.'

My Opinion:

"Sebastian" was quite an intriguing story where we find Bliss Young and Sebastian Greer getting involved. With Bliss being over The Kid's Co-Op, she needed a security director, and Sebastian fitted in this job so well. However, Bliss didn't know that there would be 'supernatural abilities needed to protect this program.' It was interesting how things fell in place as this author gives the reader one unique story that will keep your attention as you are turning the pages. I don't want to tell too much, but I will say that the characters were really well-developed and so defined in this sweet romantic read. We find that Bliss had two people that were behind her all the way... Mi Ma and Alex, and Sebastian's also had friends who were behind him, from Zach, Ephraim, Lennox, to Lucien, that help this story come so well together.  These were wonderful characters in this story.

How this story will all come together is where Bliss & Sebastian start to have feelings for one another, but will this work out with what is going on in his life? Will they get to a HEA? This is where I say you will have to pick up "Sebastian" to see how well this author brings it out to the reader.

I see that it will be a series, 'The Champions book 2' will be coming up next to feature EPHRAIM. I am sure that it will be another good read!

Maggie Finds Her Muse A Novel by Dee Ernst

 My Excerpt:

"A delightful work of women's fiction about a bestselling author who goes to Paris to overcome writer's block, and in the process rediscovers family, independence, and love.

All Maggie Bliss needs to do is write. Forty-eight years old and newly single (again!), she ventures to Paris in a last-ditch effort to finish her manuscript. With a marvelous apartment at her fingertips and an elegant housekeeper to meet her every need, a finished book—and her dream of finally taking her career over the top—is surely within her grasp. After all, how could she find anything except inspiration in Paris, with its sophistication, food, and romance in the air?

But the clock is running out, and between her charming ex-husband arriving in France for vacation and a handsome Frenchman appearing one morning in her bathtub, Maggie’s previously undisturbed peace goes by the wayside. Charming and heartfelt, Dee Ernst's Maggie Finds Her Muse is a delightful and feel-good novel about finding love, confidence, and inspiration in all the best places."

My Opinion:

What an exciting story of Maggie, who was a middle-aged woman she escapes to 'Paris to overcome writer's block, but in doing so, what will happen when she finds family, her independence, and above all love?' Will Maggie find the inspiration for her third Delania book? What will happen when Maggie finds a man in her bathtub? One can enjoy how the daughter and ex-husband were brought into the story and a love triangle that will keep one intrigued to see what would happen in that situation.

Be prepared to laugh out loud at a lot of bantering that will go on in this read as one will even be drawn to want to visit Paris, I am not sure about the writing [for me], but definitely, this is the place to visit, eat and let's not forget the wines. The areas that were visited in the story were quite something...from New Jersey, Paris, and New York.

'Maggie Finds Her Muse' was quite an entertaining, enjoyable, and fun read as this author will keep you turning the pages to see what was coming next. Even Jules [the dog] was funny, along with some other secondary characters who had their intricacies and complexities. All in all, giving the readers one heck of a romantic good read. By the end, the reader will get a good taste of not only a good read but one of: 'self-discovery, travel, food, culture, love, and even some relationships with friends and to family.'

Will Maggie find her Muse? This is where I say you will have to pick up this good read to see how well this author brings it all out to the reader.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and the author, Dee Ernst, for the eARC in return for an honest review.

The reader will be given an informative read that will easily comprehend issues on our health and wellness. It was quite interesting how Ms. Harris breaks it all down for the reader to understand what can be applied to daily life easily.

From the read, one will definitely see that this person gives her all that has helped so many people through the 'manifestation of her labor, experience, daily practice, and love,' and making this a good read!

Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson

 Book Excerpt:

"Open Water is tender poetry, a love song to Black art and thought, an exploration of intimacy and vulnerability between two young artists learning to be soft with each other in a world that hardens against Black people.”—Yaa Gyasi, author of HOMEGOING.

In a crowded London pub, two young people meet. Both are Black British, both won scholarships to private schools where they struggled to belong, both are now artists—he a photographer, she a dancer—and both are trying to make their mark in a world that by turns celebrates and rejects them. Tentatively, tenderly, they fall in love. But two people who seem destined to be together can still be torn apart by fear and violence, and over the course of a year, they find their relationship tested by forces beyond their control.

Narrated with deep intimacy, Open Water is at once an achingly beautiful love story and a potent insight into race and masculinity that asks what it means to be a person in a world that sees you only as a Black body; to be vulnerable when you are only respected for strength; to find safety in love, only to lose it. With gorgeous, soulful intensity, and blistering emotional intelligence, Caleb Azumah Nelson gives a profoundly sensitive portrait of romantic love in all its feverish waves and comforting beauty.

This is one of the most essential debut novels of recent years, heralding the arrival of a stellar and prodigious young talent."

"Open Water" by Azumah Nelson

My Opinion:

'Open Water' was a wonderfully written book written from the perspective of the male character's second-person narration set in London and centers on two black artists who meet and have a quick connection after meeting in a bar. We find the male character is a British photographer, and the female character is a British dancer who was both black.

The story has a tenderness about it between these two that will quickly seem believable, drawing you into the story where there will be some severe issues dealt with.

As you read through this love story, one can easily be mesmerized by its creative masterpiece from its start to the end.  This intimate love story was beautifully written as the couple first meets, and the story builds as one continues to read like poetry flowing beautifully, lyrical, and expressive. Be ready for an 'emotional, powerful, beautiful, identity, grief, loss, love, violence, mental health, long-distance,' and absolutely, in the end, you are given a touching story that will keep your attention turning the pages to see what is coming next.

There is a lot more to say about this read, but I will stop and just say you must pick up this good read, "Open Water," and see how well this author brings it out so well to the readers.

'The Good Sister' was a good read full of suspense, thriller, and oh my goodness, drama all over the place.  I enjoyed the plot development, and the characters were all simply well-developed in this well-written story that this author gives the readers.  Be prepared for one interesting read that will be surrounded by sadness, confusion, and anger in this Castle family, Nina, Rose, and Fern.  It was quite a read that showed that this family was definitely in need of help during childhood. This was some read of two sisters [fraternal twins] and a mother with one of the sisters,  having 'sensory processing issues, hypersensitive to found, light, touch, and smell,' with the other one...somewhat domineering, definitely used manipulation, and with a mom who has overdosed [sociopath], leaving the twins to have to live in foster care until they were eighteen.   Believe me, you will have quite a read as the story continues. After saying that, I will say this is one read that you will need to pick up and see how well this author brings it all out, giving the readers one twisted and surprising ending.

'Paper Bag' was quite a story that this author did a wonderful job bringing to the reader. I found this story somewhat sad in so many ways. From what all had gone on in Monty's mom's [Breanna] life was really something to have gone through as a child. I was glad in the way the story brought all of this situation to life. Yes, Monty needed to know what had happened to his mother. He dealt with this 'paper bag' incident interesting, seeing how he was involved with the sister, Summer, brother, Langston, twins, and their mother, Tammy. I was glad that Monty had his Pop Pop [my favorite character] there with him along with his birth father at the end.

As the story continues, the reader will see that Monty and Summer did love one another and didn't let the difference of their skin be a problem; however, we also see that some spots never change in the way Ms. Tammy treated her darker granddaughter.

Thank you to the author for bringing out to the reader just what the Paper Bag test was all about. This story will give you a taste of a little bit of it all from love, hatred, family secrets, mystery, the prejudice that has been passed on from generation to generation, and I believe it still exists today! This was an awesome read, giving one of New Orleans's histories and leaving many thought-provoking issues long after reading.
