Kate Warne's Sister Is Missing Kindle Edition by J.A. Schneider

 Book Excerpt:

"April 1861, New York City. Civil War has just broken out. Kate Warne, the first female detective, and a Pinkerton, returns to find that her beloved sister, Saskia, has gone missing. Where to turn? Who to suspect?

Danger surrounds Kate. Secessionists' fury has followed her since she thwarted their recent attempt to assassinate Lincoln in Baltimore. New York City is also a powder keg, with most elites and even the city's mayor violently pro-South. Or could Kate's possibly pro-South relatives have anything to do with Saskie's disappearance?

Buck Hackett, a handsome fellow Pinkerton, teams up to help but also yearns for Kate. She resists loving him, fearing more heartache after losing her husband. Instead, she and her frequent partner Hattie Lawton - whose family Pinkerton helped escape to Canada via the Underground Railroad - plunge headlong into the dangers of 1861 NYC: from the theater scene to scenes of squalor and vast wealth - then through the raging opium epidemic and the secret tunnels of Chinatown. To find her sister Kate braves every danger, knowing that every second counts."

My Assessment:

'Kates Warne's Sister Is Missing' was quite a riveting historical thriller that happened in NYC in 1861 as the Civil War was starting. Upon returning home, this first Pinkerton detective, Kate Warne, finds her sister Saskia, who was an artist and gardener, could not be found. Was this because of Kate being involved with the stopping of Lincoln's assassination, or did it have something to do with her relatives being involved in all of this mess because both Kate's brother Tom and sister-in-law were quite something...I will stop here and say...pick up this good read.

The story will be a long read but needed due to what was happening in Kate's life. Kate had lost her husband Ned through death, and now her sister was missing. One person who worked for the Pinkerton detectives had feelings for Kate, but she wasn't interested then; still, he was there trying to help Kate with her situation with her missing sister. Kate's partner Hattie Lawton was with her and other secondary characters trying to find her sister.

Be ready with many twists and turns and see after all that was said and down just who was involved with Kate's sister Saskia's disappearance. I wasn't surprised at all who this person turned out to be. Will they find Saskia before it's too late? Why were the drugs,...Opium and Laudanum epidemic and the secret tunnels of Chinatown have to do with this situation that seemed to involve many people from this story?

In the end, how will this turn out for Kate? Will she find her sister alive and find a new love in her life? To get the whole story pick up 'Kate Warne's Sister Is Missing'...will she be found? Then, open this well-written read and see how it all is brought out so well by this author.
