My Thoughts....
"The Scent of Jasmine" was one very interesting read about what can happen to one with breast cancer. This author tell of a story that dealt with Gabby Ryan who was a investigator reporter but notice something was wrong. In all of her reporting I don't think that she thought that she would in up reporting about her life as she had to deal with her cancer that had earlier taken her mother's life. This is one of those stories that was very a sad one for me to read. It was hard to believe all that Gabby and her brother Gabe had to go through in dealing with the insurance and medical system just to get the help she needed so badly. It will really cause one to wonder is this really how our system works for one that is ill and have insurance? What was up with 'The Scent of Jasmine' that was what Gabby's mom had worn? I liked how this author fitted it into this story.
I don't want to spoil it much by telling too much of this story other than saying this is one story that all should read and not just the women but also by men too. I will say in the end Gabby Ryan received a Pulitzer Prize from all that she had documented about her trouble horrible disease... 'Breast Cancer.' However, all that is left ... well it seems like this ugly disease may even be knocking at the door of another family member. One will be left wondering if Gabe will have to suffer as his sister Gabby had done from the insurance company denying her the help she really needed. The answer to a important question...can men get breast cancer? YES!
Well, it looks like for Gabe that he is beginning a journey as "he looked straight out into the night, "I am coming soon, Mom, as he smelled a light of jasmine odor..I hope I can do something good before the time I go, but I am coming home."
